For Immediate Release

Lane Closures at PBI in Departures, Level 3, for Traffic Coating

Beginning September 16, 2013, a traffic coating project will have lane closures on Level 3 in Departures but will remain accessible to the public for passenger drop-off and curbside check-in. All work areas will be enclosed by traffic barricades with directional signage for the duration of the three-phase project.

The maintenance project includes replacing the existing coating to provide a moisture barrier that will further protect the concrete structure. "Every effort is being made to create a convenient alternative drop-off for passengers departing PBI for the duration of the project as well as do the work quickly and efficiently to minimize passenger impact. The Department of Airports has worked closely with all agencies involved to coordinate and communicate drop-off procedures for departing passengers. Curbside Check-In will still be available," explains Jerry Allen, Deputy Director of Planning and Community Affairs for Palm Beach County Department of Airports.

Phase One of the project will close the four interior lanes nearest the terminal entrances scheduled from 9/16/13 to 10/21/2013. Crosswalks will remain open for passengers to cross into the terminal from the exterior lanes.

Phase Two will close three of the exterior lanes nearest the median scheduled from 10/21/13 to 11/05/13. Again, crosswalks will remain open for passengers to cross throughout this phase. The interior lanes will be re-opened and the traffic will be directed by signage and barricades.

Phase Three will close the two most exterior lanes scheduled from 11/05/13 to 11/26/13. This phase will complete the project.
