Creativity takes flight at Palm Beach International Airport with launch of new Art Gallery

West Palm Beach, Fla: November 15, 2019- Palm Beach International Airport, in partnership with Palm Beach County Art in Public Places, is excited to announce the grand opening of its new Art Gallery.

The new art gallery space boasts enhanced exhibition walls and lighting to better showcase artworks by 15 artists who call the Palm Beaches home.  Exhibitions change three times a year.  In addition, starting in January, video interviews with featured artists will play on continuous loop at the Art Gallery and air as “Creativity Takes Flight” on Palm Beach County’s TV Station, Channel 20, with clips shared via social media.  Centrally located on level 2 in the atrium near the putting green, the Art Gallery’s pre-security location encourages passengers and locals to stop by to discover unique artistic expressions by locally and internationally renowned artists.

“Our passengers love our amenities and the launch of the new Art Gallery is great addition,” said Director of Airports Laura Beebe.  “Traveling can be hectic, but we pride ourselves on an easy, laid-back experience.  The Art Gallery creates a homey feeling that travelers and locals appreciate, adding to the pleasure of flying PBI.  We are proud to exhibit artists of The Palm Beaches and excited to offer this experience to residents and visitors of Palm Beach County.”

The inaugural exhibition’s theme, “Artfully Discovering The Palm Beaches”, highlights the diverse beauty there is to discover throughout Palm Beach County. The first exhibition runs December 11, 2019 – April 8, 2020.  Curator and Artist Nichole Hickey will be the show’s guest judge.  Elayna Toby Singer, Palm Beach County Art in Public Places Administrator, is the Airport Art Gallery’s Curator.

The Artists Reception will be held February 20, 2020 from 5:30pm-7pm, and the public is invited to meet the artists, enjoy live music and refreshments.  Complimentary parking is offered to reception attendees in the Short Term Parking Lot, excluding SunPass.

“As a major gateway to The Palm Beaches, PBI’s Art Gallery offers a uniquely artful welcome that beckons visitors and residents to explore Palm Beach County’s engaging artful places and happenings. I’m super excited about The Art Gallery’s new video element presenting personal behind the scenes perspectives from artists about creative process, what inspires them, and other interesting insights into making art with varying materials, techniques and styles. As I like to say, “Every artwork has a story, and every artist a story to tell.” Last, but certainly not least, the Art Gallery at PBI supports the local creative economy every time exhibiting artists sell their work, which happily, is a regular occurrence,” said Elayna Toby Singer, Palm Beach County Art in Public Places Administrator.
